PLAYGROUP - 15 months to 2 years (attending with a parent)
Fri 9 am -10:30 am
Our playgroup provides you with a unique opportunity to devote your undivided attention to your young child while working in a prepared Montessori environment. You will gain first-hand experience in the Montessori method and learn how it can be implemented in both the classroom and at home.
Your child will be exposed to many activities that encourage independence and meet their need 'to do it myself'. Children are introduced to the concept of circle time and participate in songs, actions, and movement.
Children learn how to acknowledge greetings by using eye contact. Parents are asked to respect the young child's developing concentration by moving quietly around the room and allowing them the freedom to choose their own work.
Parents will need to help them return work to the shelf, ready for the next person.

TOTS - 2 years to 3 years (attending on their own - do not need to be toilet trained)
Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs 8 am -11:15 am
Children may attend one or more sessions per week (they do not have to be toilet trained). This is a transition program aiding a smooth separation from parents and gaining self-confidence within a safe, warm, and loving environment. Tots' developmental needs for movement and language are high priorities when programming. The children are introduced to the routines and expectations of a Montessori classroom and encouraged to practice social skills such as: walking inside, using a quiet voice, waiting for a turn, not disturbing others, and putting their work away.
There are many activities that help tots gain co-ordination, concentration, order, and independence. They may choose to have a snack, scrub a table, dust the leaves of a plant, feed the fish, or learn how to do up the buttons on a dressing frame. Children learn how to choose their own work and are able to use it for as long as they wish, before replacing it on the shelf. Circle time is becoming more enticing now and the children help with the calendar, learn each other's names, and are encouraged to use eye-contact as they greet and farewell teachers and friends.

Pre-schoolers become wonderful teachers to the younger tots by modelling desired behaviours and teaching new skills. In turn, this reinforces their knowledge, helps them grow in confidence, and develop self-esteem. Our children become responsible for themselves and their actions. A sense of community develops from this arrangement as children get to know and look out for each other. The pre-school environment is rich in language, mathematics, sensorial, practical life, and cultural materials that will engage, stimulate, and challenge. We allow and encourage the children to fully explore their chosen activity until completion.
The longer session time of three hours enables our children to experience a deeper level of concentration that comes after the 'false fatigue' period. Children work at their own pace. They may choose to work alone on individual pursuits, co-operatively in small groups or with a friend. Teachers are the link between the children and the environment, gently guiding them toward the next challenging piece of work, after carefully observing them and their level of development, children are introduced to new materials and concepts via individual or group lessons.
We aim to create a peaceful, caring learning environment where everyone can feel a sense of belonging and ownership.
It's not too late to enrol for 2023.
